T'ai Chi Chih
Pam Towne first learned T’ai Chi Chih at the Asilomar Conference Center on the Monterey Peninsula in Northern California. “I remember vividly the deep impact of seeing Corinn Codye do 'Bass Drum' in silence as the workshop leaders introduced what they were going to do. I felt so peaceful inside and wanted to be able to move like that!”
Pam Towne received many benefits from her T’ai Chi Chih practice, such as normalizing low blood pressure and metabolism, increasing energy, and cultivating 'serenity in the midst of activity'. As a result, she wanted to share T’ai Chi Chih and its benefits with others. This led her to become an accredited T’ai Chi Chih teacher.
Accredited by Justin Stone in November 1984, Pam Towne has been teaching T'ai Chi Chih ever since. A teacher at heart, she has a Lifetime Secondary Teaching Credential in California. After teaching individualized high school classes in adult education for many years, Pam found her niche in teaching T’ai Chi Chih and has been teaching it full time since 1996.
Over the years Pam has taught T’ai Chi Chih in many different settings: parks and recreation departments, adult education, cancer centers, senior communities, corporations, churches, and spiritual retreats, including the 1993 Science of Mind Conference held just outside of Moscow in Russia.
Active in the T’ai Chi Chih Community, Pam Towne has annually audited Teacher Accreditations and has attended every Teacher Conference since the first one in 1985. She has been a Teacher Trainer since 2001, leading T’ai Chi Chih workshops, retreats, and teacher accreditation courses around the globe. In 2003 she pioneered the T'ai Chi Chih Intensive course and is currently pioneering distance learning of T'ai Chi Chih via the internet using Skype video calls. Pam does individual instruction and teacher preparation in person and on the internet by appointment.
Pam also leads Seijaku (the advanced T'ai Chi Chih form) classes, workshops and Seijaku Teacher Accreditations. She has been the Seijaku Teacher Trainer since 2003.
T'ai Chi Chih originator Justin Stone said, "Pam Towne is one of the best T'ai Chi Chih teachers in the world." Pam's life purpose is to make a difference for peace in the world. She has taken to heart the words of the song, "Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me." Her vision for the future of T'ai Chi Chih is that it expands around the world, contributing to inner and outer peace in our lives and on our planet.
When Pam isn’t doing T’ai Chi Chih, she enjoys Sufi dancing, devotional singing, walking on the beach, jigsaw and Sudoku puzzles, roller skating backward (rexing), visiting her son on Maui, and playing with her cat.
A full interview with Pam Towne is printed in the April 2004 issue of The Vital Force, Journal of the T'ai Chi Chih Community.
